Want in on a little secret? The best gravel, sand, and stone yard in Westchester is not actually in Westchester! New Jersey Gravel and Sand has a long-established reputation for providing some of the best stone work in Westchester, great customer service, and very competitive prices, but our yard is in Jersey. However, we happily do on-site work throughout Westchester, bringing all of our skills and customer service to you.
What do you think of when you think of high-quality stonework? You probably close your eyes and picture beautiful stone installations and building projects. In fact, if you are like most people, you focus on the stones being used. However, as stone craftsmen, we know that while the stones are important, the stone cutters are the real secret to highlighting the natural beauty of the stone. At New Jersey Gravel and Sand, we are proud to have some of the area’s best stone cutters. In addition to creating standard cuts, they can create custom stone looks for interior and exterior applications.

What type of stone are you seeking? Some people are initially wary about stone because of the high cost associated with retrofitting current projects for stone or of building new projects with the structural support required for stone installations. We offer stone veneer for people who want the high-end look of stone, but who want to avoid the high-dollar price tag associated with stone projects. Veneer is thin, usually 1-inch thick- stone that is lightweight enough to be applied to existing structures without additional structural supports. It allows you the look of a stone remodel without the high price tag.
Looking for a more classical approach? Consider Bluestone. You may not be familiar with the name, but you are certainly familiar with the blue-gray stones that form the foundations of some of the area’s most beautiful classic homes. There are two varieties of Bluestone, Pennsylvania and Shenandoah Valley, but the locally sourced Pennsylvania variety is more familiar to people in Westchester and contains the interesting tan, rust, and red variations within the stone.
Another stone known for its color and its local flavor is flagstone. You may have seen flagstone used very successfully in informal garden settings, where large slabs are placed, without mortar, and take on the natural feel of the garden. However, not all flagstone has an informal feel; it is also cut into paver shapes and used to create structured, patterned walks, patios, and driveways.
If you want to start with a small stone project that brings a lot of pizzazz, you might want to consider treads. Treads are large, flat, smooth stones that are used in a variety of applications including: stair steps, landings, hearths, mantles, caps, and as coping. We carry Bluestone treads in a variety of standard of sizes. Of course, we can also custom-cut treads in non-standard sizes or from different stones.
